Firefighters from three Panama stations and Panama's Sea and Air Service (SENAN) battled a fire on a $12 million Discovery luxury yacht on Thursday afternoon, May 21. "Discovery" caught fire in the Amador marina and was moved to enable firefighters from Calidonia, Balboa, and Plaza Amador to douse the flames that consumed the vessel despite their efforts. Billowing smoke clouds could be seen from apartments on Avenida Balboa.
Category 5 Cyclone Harold swept across the South Pacific island of Vanuatu, on April 6, leaving devastation in its wake. Aid and relief efforts are ramping up but highly complicated by Vanuatu currently being free of the Corona virus. Cash infusion to the disaster relief organizations in place on the ground will maximize their ability to deliver aid within the constraints of Covid-19 mitigation protocols in place for incoming aid. YachtAid Global’s Operation Nasama will provide that infusion with 100% of funds going to Vanuatu.
Thank you in advance for helping the people of Vanuatu by sharing this information.
The sun was setting off the coast of Panama this week as the 285-foot superyacht Lonian sat securely anchored next to its spectacular 216-foot support catamaran yacht, Hodor. Among Hodor’s cargo is five tenders, including a 55-foot chase boat, Jet Skis, and quad bikes. The support yacht also prominently features its own custom hospital with a private nurse and 20-person crew for its billionaire owners. Most yachts over 300 feet contain mini-hospitals, or secure medical rooms, and yacht nurse staffing agencies can barely keep up with the increase in demand following the coronavirus outbreak. As yacht owners find themselves virtually isolated in their foreign locations, the need for onboard medical protection is an urgent necessity. I spoke with several experts in the industry, and they say that numerous superyachts are currently traveling to or already in secure locations near private islands far from the maddening crowds of possible infection. “COVID-19 has impacted the yachting industry heavily,” says Alex Haubrich of Yachtie World. “Many crew members have lost their jobs and are stranded away from home and family. Some owners are using their vessels for social distancing, which is understandable, but some are running with half the crew or less, which means the demand for the remaining crew members is increasing. A lot of employed yacht crew are panicking as they don’t know whether or not their jobs or health are in jeopardy.”
Denison Yachting Launches Virtual Boat Show on March 27
"Find your dream yacht from the convenience of your own home. This year, we’re bringing the boat show to you. With yachting experts live streaming throughout the day, virtual boat tours, special boat show pricing and more – we’re excited to provide you an exclusive experience, first of its kind to the yachting industry." As much as the yachting lifestyle seems all hard work and no play (kidding!), believe it or not there are some pretty valuable life lessons to be learnt while working on superyachts aside from the shammy-ing and vacuuming.
After putting together a great yacht CV, you apply to all available jobs....and still nothing! What is going on? You could be making some common job hunting mistakes that could be preventing you from your dream yacht job! Don't end up on the bottom of the CV pile, impress Captains by avoiding these 5 mistakes:

I’ve created a step-by-step list of how I got to where I am today for those of you looking to break into the wild wild yachting industry. Before doing anything though, I suggest reading more about the industry so that you're prepared for the amount of work that will be asked of you. I am still pretty new myself, but researching and reading definitely prepped me for what to expect.
When most of us think of buying a boat, we imagine a vessel that can hold a few people and shuttle us around a lake. Maybe we’ll use it for fishing, maybe a little water skiing. It will be something to keep us busy on the weekends.
The ultra-rich don’t mess around when it comes to purchasing watercraft. They either go big or go back to their plush mansions. In this post, we’re going to explore the world of superyachts. We’re going to examine the 20 largest yachts in the world, from smallest (if that word can be used) to largest. Think of this as “Lifestyles of the Ultra-Rich, Maybe Famous, or Maybe Really Reclusive Billionaires Who Are Sort of Weird”. You get the point. Do you have what it takes to work on-board a yacht?
When I first started working in the yachting industry, I would hear from people here and there that it isn’t for everybody. But I didn’t give it much thought. “That won’t be me,” I figured. What they don’t do is elaborate on why the industry isn’t for everyone. What are the reasons people can’t stick it out? I work on a 30-metre private sail yacht. Yachts come in all shapes and sizes and for all I know life on a 100-metre motor yacht might be a bit different, but not much. It’s a good idea to know who you are and what you like and dislike before entering into the world of yachting. The money is very good and you have little to no expenses, so some people are able to see past the bad. For others the money simply isn’t worth it. Here are the main reasons working on a yacht may not be for you: Read more: http://www.vergemagazine.com/work-abroad/blogs/1077-5-skills-needed-to-survive-a-yacht-crew-job.html By Verge Magazine |
